Digital pathology
The Institute of Pathology of the School of Veterinary Medicine is the first medical educational institution in Germany to have a "ScanScope" (Aperio) at its disposal. The device enables the complete digitization of histological specimens at very high resolution (400x) and works in principle like an ordinary scanner, only in completely different dimensions. The result is a digital histological preparation that can be viewed on the computer under a microscope, just like a glass slide. The computer thus replaces the microscope as a "virtual microscope". This technology makes it possible to work with digitized histological preparations over long distances without a microscope. Conferences with several participants are also possible. In the field of teaching, this key technology opens up access to digital annotations and descriptions in the preparation (annotations).
Under the following link you will find a digital preparation that has been annotated for teaching purposes and demonstrates the technology in an exemplary manner.
All preparations used in teaching are available to students around the clock via Blackboard for self-study.
Plastination
The preservation of organ material by means of plastination not only enables the very efficient and permanent use of valuable dissection material, but also enables the training of pregnant women, nursing mothers and immunosuppressed students who are temporarily denied access to the dissection hall for their own protection.
Training to become a specialist veterinarian / Diplomate (ECVP / ACVP)
As a certified training center, we train veterinary pathology specialists at national, European and international level as ECVP and ACVP diplomates.
