News from Apr 01, 2025

The focus of this year's hybrid event was on infectious diseases and resistance problems in ruminants and camelids. The topics included bluetongue disease, Q fever and other relevant infectious diseases, parasites and resistant bacteria. After a welcome address by Prof. Marc Drillich, head of the Farm Animal Clinic at the School of Veterinary Medicine, and Prof. Georg von Samson-Himmelstjerna, spokesperson for the TZR, entertaining lectures were held from 9 am to 6 pm. A total of thirteen speakers gave half-hour insights into current developments in their work and research areas, as well as numerous tips for everyday practice.

The sessions covered both small and large ruminants, as well as new world camels, vaccination strategies, the use of antibiotics in farm animals, and new approaches to solutions. Among other things, the lecture by Dr. Ralph Bötticher met with particular interest. As head of the veterinary and food control office in the district of Märkisch-Oderland, he gave a very vivid talk on crisis management and strategies in the event of an epidemic, using the example of the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the state of Brandenburg in January of this year.

Many thanks to all the speakers and colleagues involved in the organization for this informative day, which was also used for exchange and networking!
