Animal welfare training "eSchulTS²" goes online
At the School of Veterinary Medicine, an interdisciplinary collaborative project created a multilingual and free e-learning platform with several modules to improve animal welfare during transport and slaughter of cattle and pigs.
News from Sep 28, 2023
The target groups are in particular employees with little knowledge of German and different cultural backgrounds working for animal transport companies and at slaughterhouses, as well as official veterinarians and animal welfare officers working at the slaughterhouse. The modules were designed with little text and many videos to take into account the varying levels of education of the employees.
The modules are available in German, Romanian, Polish, Bulgarian, Hungarian and English and are to be understood as additional animal welfare training in the sense of a standard work. Certificates of attendance can be generated and printed out as proof of training. Access without barriers and in compliance with data protection regulations is available immediately:
This collaborative project involves the AG Fleischhygiene of the Institute of Food Safety and Hygiene, the Institute of Animal Welfare, Animal Behavior and Laboratory Animal Science, the Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Biometry, and the Department of Educational Science of Freie Universität Berlin. The external industrial partner is Tönnies Holding ApS & Co. KG. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (grant number: 2817806A18).
