About us

We train almost 200 future veterinarians per year in all important and common animal diseases. Our aim is to provide students with a sound understanding of diseases and all aspects of their causes, naming and recognition in order to optimally prepare them for all areas of the veterinary profession.

Of great importance is also comparative pathology, i.e. a comparative view of diseases of different animal species and also with human diseases. The basis of diseases is researched down to the molecular level, so the focus on molecular pathology is a special feature of our work.

In addition, as a certified training center, we train veterinary specialists in pathology as well as interns and residents of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP). Furthermore, we train students of the Equine Science degree program together with the other institutions of the department.

Our research work is networked with numerous regional, national and international partners in DFG-funded research networks on topics such as "Early mechanisms of pneumonia", "Improvements in methods to replace animal experiments" and "Sarcocystis calchasi infections in wild birds".

We also offer our diagnostic expertise and methods in a variety of services for practicing veterinarians and the general public.
