Are you interested in a doctorate in pathology or would you like to become a pathologist?
The doctoral thesis after graduation offers the opportunity to get to know scientific work and at the same time a professional specialization. There are around 360 veterinary pathology specialists working in Germany, with generally excellent career opportunities for qualified young professionals. Almost all of our doctoral students qualify for a lifelong career in veterinary pathology, which in turn consists of many different sub-specializations.
-
A doctorate with us usually goes hand in hand with the opportunity to participate in the veterinary pathology specialist program as well as in the training to become a Diplomate of the European / American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP / ACVP), both programs are optional.
-
Some of our doctoral students complete a “structured” doctorate as part of the PhD program at the Dahlem Research School Biomedical Sciences (usually 3 years).
-
Doctoral theses are usually accompanied by a formal appointment (including payment) for at least 3 years from institute or research funds. Parallel employment to earn a living is neither necessary nor desirable. However, you will be integrated into the duty roster, including autopsy diagnostics and student teaching, for a total of around 8 hours per week.
-
For some of our doctoral students, this opens up the possibility of an in-depth postdoctoral/assistant position at the institute as well as qualification for a scientific career.
-
Please consult our Institute homepage for the various subject areas of our scientific work.
-
We do not award “external” work with simultaneous work, e.g. in practice. We are committed to training the next generation of veterinary pathologists and young scientists.
