Internship at the Pathology Institute

In addition to the rotation, the elective internship at the institute in accordance with § 60 of the TAppV (2006) offers a minimum of 75 and a maximum of 350 hours (standard credit of 40 hours / week) to gain an in-depth insight into the areas of activity of animal pathology.

Participation is recommended for those students who would like to learn more about the subject, future career opportunities in the field of pathology and opportunities for a later doctorate at the Institute.

Organization and content

The aim is to voluntarily deepen knowledge of self-selected aspects from all areas of animal pathology offered by the Institute. Up to two students are admitted at the same time, which should start and end at different times if possible, in order to enable mutual “familiarization” and “learning from each other”.

As part of the elective internship, students can choose between two modules:

  1. Research module:

    • Participation in current research projects incl. dissertations
    • Assistance in the laboratory in various areas (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, PCR, laser microdissection, ...)
    • If necessary, implementation of your own project – self-initiative desired!
  2. Diagnostics module

    • Dissection service
    • Biopsy diagnostics
    • Writing a case report (publication)
    • Participation in Journal Club, JPC Wednesday Slide Conference and macro-training
    • Bird dissections
    • Diagnostics of laboratory animals (focus on mouse / rat)
