An fundamental philosophy of the Equine Science degree program at Freie Universität Berlin is the special consideration of the aspect of species-appropriate handling and keeping of horses. In this sense, the orientation of the training of the horse to the species-specific needs as well as the learning and performance physiology of the horse is a central point of the course in order to fully meet the requirements of animal welfare on the one hand and to gain the horse as a reliable farm animal on the other. The goal is to bring this guiding principle to all areas of the equine industry with the managers trained on the course and to anchor it there.
Graduates of the Equine Science degree program at Freie Universität Berlin are expected to be able to manage an equine business or hold other management positions in all areas of the equine industry. The range of possible fields of activity includes stud farms, insemination stations, breeding associations and organizations, stable and riding facility construction, horse trading, sports and event management, the insurance industry, journalism and many more. Graduates can also work for the relevant authorities involved in horse breeding and the horse industry. Finally, they also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career path via a postgraduate Master's degree.
