Animal welfare officers

Animal Welfare Officer of the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Biology-Chemistry-Pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin

  • Prof. Dr. Christa Thöne-Reineke
  • Katharina Kirsch, PhD
  • Dr. Karolina Krehl

The Animal Welfare Officers provide support in animal welfare issues and in the planning and implementation of animal research projects.

In particular, we advise those responsible for breeding and husbandry, researchers, employees and animal keepers on issues relating to the housing, keeping and procurement of animals and animal husbandry hygiene.

During the planning, application and implementation of animal experimentation projects, the animal welfare officers are the point of contact for all those involved in the experiments and submit a statement to the approval authority for each experimentation project. The animal welfare officers are consulted in an advisory capacity during the planning and construction of animal facilities.
