Our institute organizes teaching in the areas of animal welfare, animal behaviour and laboratory animal science:
In the 2nd semester the basic lectures are animal welfare, ethics and law and animal behavior (ethology) and in the 4th semester the animal welfare seminar with the participation of official veterinarians. A lecture in laboratory animal science and a practical laboratory animal science course are offered as compulsory elective courses.
The Institute also participates in the lecture on forensic veterinary medicine and in cross-sectional and compulsory elective courses on various topics relevant to animal welfare.
We hold a lecture on the ethics of the human-horse relationship for students on the Equine Science Bachelor's degree program.

Introduction to ethology (lecture)
In the ethology lecture in the 2nd semester, general principles of behavioral science and behavioral terminology and methods as well as species-specific behaviors of farm animals, small animals, laboratory animals, exotic animals and zoo and wild animals and behavioral disorders are taught. Ethology is of central importance for practical veterinary examinations and forms the basis of behavioral therapy.

Introduction to animal welfare ethics and law (lecture)
The lecture imparts knowledge about the species-appropriate and behavior-appropriate housing and care of animals as well as the protection of animals in the animal trade, during animal transport, during slaughter or killing and during animal experiments.

Animal welfare seminar
In the 4th semester, the theoretical knowledge from the lecture is applied and deepened in the compulsory animal welfare seminar using practical case studies with the help of official veterinarians.

Laboratory animal science (lecture)
The laboratory animal science lecture is offered in the 8th semester and teaches the legal and ethical principles of handling laboratory animals as well as the special veterinary features of the animal species most frequently used for experimental purposes.

Practical laboratory animal science (compulsory elective)
In addition to the lecture "Laboratory Animal Science" for students in the 8th semester, an elective course is offered on practical aspects of laboratory animal science, such as handling laboratory rodents and application and sampling techniques.

3R Online seminar: Refinement and Reduction (compulsory elective)
An online seminar series 3R is offered as an elective course for students in the 5th semester. The seminar series gives students an overview of the range of scientific topics in the field of 3R.

Sustainability in livestock farming (compulsory elective)
Students are offered an interdisciplinary elective course "Sustainability in Livestock Farming". The course gives students an in-depth insight into topics in the field of sustainability.

Legal and ethical classification of torture breeding (interdisciplinary course)
As part of cross-sectional teaching, students in the 8th semester are offered a lecture on the legal and ethical classification of torture breeding.

Current topics on animal welfare in poultry (cross-sectional teaching)
The lecture "Aktuelles zum Thema Tierschutz beim Geflügel" is offered as part of the interdisciplinary course for students in the 8th semester.

Forensic veterinary medicine (lecture)
A lecture on "Killing animals, confidentiality and animal welfare" is offered to students as part of the lecture "Forensic Veterinary Medicine".

Ethics of the MPB (human - horse - relationship) (lecture)
For students on the Equine Science Bachelor's degree course, the Institute is involved in a lecture on the ethics of the human-horse relationship.
