Institute for Animal Welfare, Animal Behavior and Laboratory Animal Science receives funding from the BMBF for the 3REthicsWeb project – subproject “Ethical justifiability of animal testing”

The Institute for Animal Welfare, Animal Behavior and Laboratory Animal Science, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. vet. Thöne-Reineke, has received funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the project “Alternative Methods: 3R and Alternative Methods to Animal Testing - The Ethics E-Learning Platform” (3REthicsWeb) for the sub-project “Ethical Justifiability of Animal Testing”.

There is a cooperation with the Department of Philosophy and Ethics Didactics at Freie Universität Berlin, headed by Dr. Julia Dietrich, and with the Department of Ethics and Philosophy of Technology at Technische Universität Berlin, headed by Prof. Dr. Birgit Beck.

The aim of the “3REthicsWeb” project is to develop, test and implement a professionally sound, interdisciplinary and modular e-learning platform on the ethical justifiability of animal testing, the ethics of the 3Rs and alternative methods in an interdisciplinary ethical context.

The special feature of the project is the concrete practical relevance of the concepts for the ethical justifiability of animal testing, the development of an ethic of alternative methods and the communication of comprehensive interdisciplinary ethical literacy in the area of 3R and alternative methods.
